The invention relates to a process for producing sponge iron briquettes from fine ore with a maximum grain size of less than 2 mm, preferably smaller than 0.5 mm, wherein hot fine ore is fed to a roller press having two press rollers and is briquetted into sponge iron briquettes in the nip between the press rollers by the latter's mutually opposite briquette molds.
